Pretty flowers, green grass, clear skies, and warmer weather are all why I love taking family photos in the spring and summer seasons. Figuring out what to wear for spring and summer family photo shoots can be challenging, but we are here to help!
Wondering what to wear? We can help with that! Your location, surroundings, and outside temperature will impact your wardrobe. What you chose to wear is a reflection of who you are, and making a choice that looks great on camera is important. Here are our best tips and family outfit guides for you to know what to wear for spring & summer photo shoots.

WE’VE COMPILED 5 DO’S AND DON’TS FOR YOUR SPRING & SUMMER FAMILY PHOTO SHOOT.
WEAR THIS:
- Coordinating and complimentary colors
- Textures like linen, chambray, gauze, and flowy fabrics add a light and airy feel to photos
- Solid colors and small patterns*
- Mix it up with florals and solids
- Utilize accessories: belts, jewelry, sandals, and some large brim hats
*beware of tiny prints, they may cause moire, or a distorted look in photos
NOT THAT:
- Matchy-matchy: remember the all denim in the 80’s?
- Big brand logos
- Neon colors—they create a color cast and do not print well
- Large patterns and distracting accessories
- Hats that shade or hide your eyes
