The holidays are a time for traditions; a yearly Christmas card is a tried and true staple of the season! Holiday cards are traditional, but they don’t have to be boring and lack personality! We’ve compiled a couple different ideas to create a unique card that best expresses your family’s style:
Short Funny Sayings
An easy change to revitalize your Christmas card is adding a funny saying! Mix things up and add one of these 10 funny phrases to your holiday card:
- Christmas is Claus for celebration!
- It’s the most wine-derful time of the year.
- Warning: Mistletoe Zone
- Merry Christmas from Santa’s favorite helper(s)!
- Merry, Bright & Up all Night (we love this with newborn photos!)
- May your holidays be filled with joy, laughter, and a little bit of holiday mischief!
- Wishing you a season of peace, joy, and the ability to find your car in the mall parking lot!
- Christmas is a time for family, friends, and… avoiding the gym until New Year!
- Merry Christmas! May your family be functional and all your batteries be included!
- This holiday season, remember: calories don’t count. Especially in cookies (It’d be fun to use a photo of the family eating cookies!)
Playful Family Updates
The back of the card is the perfect place to share the highs and lows of the year in a playful way. Take the opportunity to create a fun alternative to a classic family update by sharing a “nice roast” of your favorite innocent misfortunes that have happened in the last year. From accidentally leaving the coffee out every morning, to forgetting gym shorts and running a 5k in jeans, sharing fun mishaps will bring a relatable laugh and christmas cheer to friends or family this holiday season.
Back of the Card Tips
Not sure how to add text to the back of your card? Here are easy to follow steps:
- Select “Double-Sided” cards when choosing your design.
- Once you have your selection, then you can add the image(s)
- Select the back of the card and add a text box.
Important tip: choose a text size and color that is easy to read. Sticking with high contrast colors and serifed fonts that make the text more bold will help keep your text legible. We recommend using a white font color on a dark background, or using a dark font color on a light background. As fun as it can be to pair holiday colors like red and green together, this is hard on the eyes and can easily muddy the text.

Christmas Card Timeline
Not sure when to order Christmas cards? We’ve put together a timeline so you can make sure friends and family will receive their cards.
Early October – Take family photos – typically it takes at least 2 weeks to receive all fully edited photos from the photography session. This is the best time to start gathering addresses for friends and family.
Late October – update your address book, collect addresses from friends and family before they get too busy with the holiday rush.
Early November – Order Christmas cards from Persnickety Prints and take our advice – round up, or order the extra card pack. Trust us, you’ll use it! There are always people you remember at the last minute who would enjoy receiving a sweet card from you.
Mid November – Mail the Christmas cards and feel a sense of accomplishment by crossing this off your holiday “to-do” list.
Early December – Friends and family will receive cards with plenty of time to display and enjoy this holiday season.
Time saver – Add your return address to the envelopes! You can include this additional feature to your card pack at checkout. Be sure to double check your address before submitting your order!
